Cruzan Rum Distillery

September 2017

Since the early 1800’s, the Nelthropp Family (a.k.a. Cruzan Rum Royalty) has called St. Croix home, becoming an integral part of the island’s history.

During our Restoration Project, we were honored and privileged to have the Distillery visited by General Boyd & Sgt. Maj. Conoway who headed relief operations for the Island.

Made safe for Cruzan Rum employees to remove inventory.

Our electrical personal rolled up down Utility Lines. This measure was done to secure safety of USR employees when cutting trees to erect fence and secure the Distillery.

Trees and debris blanketed the grounds. Almost 900 yards of fencing enclosing the property were damaged due to high winds. Buildings sustained damages which needed temporary repairs to access.

Prior to the storm, US Restoration, LLC (USR) was contacted by Beam Suntory to discuss providing the emergency restoration services needed to get Cruzan secured and back to full production should the storm cause damages and disruption to operations.

Partnering with Beam Suntory and Cruzan, USR immediately began the technical and logistics necessary to perform this project, including chartering a 737 aircraft to accommodate 35 USR staff, four security guards, equipment, materials and supplies for repairs, restoration and aid/supplies to Cruzan Rum employees. The Cruzan Rum Distillery in St. Croix, USVI received heavy damage after Hurricane Maria.

Upon arrival and in concert with Cruzan Rum management team, priorities were assigned and needs mapped out. The USR team was instructed to repair fencing, clean debris, patch/repair roofs, walls and secure the facility so the Cruzan team can focus on producing its world-class rum.

Twelve days after our arrival, with the assistance of the Cruzan team, the facility was prepared and ready to safely produce rum again.

History of the Cruzan Rum Distillery

Since the early 1800s, the Nelthropp Family (a.k.a. Cruzan Rum Royalty) has called St. Croix home, becoming an integral part of the island’s history. And for the last two hundred years, the island has not only left its mark on them, but also on their rum.

US Restoration, LLC was contacted by the Jim Beam Risk Manager to discuss providing the emergency restoration services needed to get this distillery secured and back to full production.

The unique spirit of St. Croix echoes in every bottle of Cruzan® Rum – from the Nelthropp family, who have crafted rum on the island for generations, to the warm, tropical breezes that circulate through the open-air warehouses of the distillery. Even the name reflects the people of St. Croix, called Crucians.

At Cruzan, every drop of rum is brilliantly crafted to exceptional standards, using natural ingredients and a unique distillation process. Each stage of the process is closely monitored and controlled to ensure that every expression boasts remarkable taste and multi-faceted flavor that shines through in every sip. Their award-winning taste, unlike any other, will awaken your spirit of discovery, and reveal to you a rare level of quality in the world of rum.

Letter of Recommendation: "US Restoration did such a good job in their 12 days performing restoration operations after hurricane Maria that we brought them back again to perform other hurricane-related projects on our site". Jim Recchia, Director of Risk Management
